When Emily realized we wouldn’t be able to do trick or treating this year she came up with the idea to turn our house into a neighborhood. We all thought it was a brilliant idea.
Andrew helped the kids make signs around the house. Nathan drew the house numbers and the kids helped to hang them up all around.
We had fun pulling together costumes together, everyone coming up with ideas for each other as we dug through closets. They picked a Frozen theme this year. Emily was Elsa, Nathan was Kristoff, Laura was Elsa, and Lydia was Sven.
Andrew played the role of the Neighborhood. He changed his character at every door in our house. Laura hated him with a “beard” and kept saying “take that off” and wouldn’t take anything from him.
In every way it was just like a regular trick or treating experience. The kids walked door to door and said “trick or treat”. Andrew asked them what their costumes were and commented on how polite they were for saying thank you. I walked the neighborhood with them (while the neighbor relocated to his new house). Laura was covered in chocolate by the time we were done. The kids poured over their stash after going to all the doors.
I think we might have a new halloween tradition.
