On Thursday, April 9, we came up with the idea for Emily and I to go to Iowa for a week and by Friday morning, April 10, we were loaded up in our car and headed west. Andrew came along for the ride and we met my mom half way. After lunch together at Arby’s Andrew headed back to Indiana and we headed off to Iowa with my mom. Andrew had a big project to work on for a few days and then joined us on Wednesday for a couple of days before we came home.
This spontaneous trip was well timed. We were there to celebrate my mom’s birthday on Saturday. My dad made a very special meal: flank steak. My mom had flank steak often as a young girl, but hasn’t had it more than a few times since then. It turned out really well.
Christine had her first two track meets on Monday and Thursday. I went to the first one with Emily and my mom and Andrew went to the second one with Emily. It was fun to watch Christine compete and Emily run around.
We spend lots of time outside in the backyard. Emily was in heaven running around in the grass, collecting little berries, playing in the flower bed while we weeded, and sliding and swinging. The weather was so nice in the evening that we stayed outside fairly late going on walk and letting Emily play.
Brian started a new job working as a medical scribe and evenings were spent hearing about the days adventures. He had one day off and we took advantage of the time by making our own bubble mix and experimenting with different “wands”. (photo credit to my mom!)
Emily spent a lot of time going on shopping trips with my mom, playing with Aunt Christine, and sitting in on all of the piano lessons my mom taught. It was such a fun trip and a wonderful change of pace for me.
