This week I feel like I woke up from a deep sleep and Emily and I have been on the move! We don’t run “errands” in this house; every time we walk out our door an adventure begins. This means that no matter what happens (from diaper explosions to turning onto a one-way road that we don’t want to be on) it is all part of the adventure and 100% okay. Anything goes on an adventure.
I suppose our adventures really started on Sunday while we were at church; we had our first tornado warning in Indiana and stayed in the hallways at church for about an hour until the storm passed. Emily was a real trooper through the whole thing (it helps that when she is hungry she gets to eat unlike the rest of us who don’t have food). When we got home we didn’t have power so our friends who also live in our complex came over to play games for a little while. We were really blessed to not have any damage and to get our power back in a couple of hours; there were some people in our city that went without for a few days.
Unlike last week, Emily lasted all 4.5 hours that we were away from home in one outfit!
On Monday Emily and I conquered Walmart together. With her car seat in the cart there was limited room for items so she was completely surrounded by things. I managed to get Emily and all the groceries into the house in one trip. The next time I picked up her car seat it seemed really light! After a quick lunch we went over to a friend’s home for our first social outing, which Emily slept through.
Emily turned 6 weeks old on Tuesday and we celebrated with my doctors appointment. She made friends with the nurses who discovered that Emily really likes to be held on her stomach. We have adopted the technique with great success.
Yesterday and today were spent visiting friends. One of our stops included the adventure of finding parking on campus. Fortunately it was after 5 and the first parking garage we came to had a steady stream of cars leaving so we didn’t have a problem finding a spot. It has been incredibly wonderful to leave our little apartment and develop friendships.
Andrew and I finished off our busy day with a walk to Dairy Queen to use a coupon we got at the corn maze. It was raining really hard so we bundled up and Andrew held the giant umbrella to shield us from the storm.
With the end of the semester quickly approaching Andrew has had extra team meetings, presentations, projects. and teaching responsibilities. We really enjoy the moments that he is around. Andrew gave Emily his hat to wear for a little bit and she wasn’t quite sure what to do about it.
With both of their busy schedules they both need some sleep.
Emily has also had a few moments of content tummy time this week!
On November 11, Emily sucked on her hand. For the following 24 hours she proudly and loudly showed off her new trick and then it went away as quickly as it came. Today it made a brief reappearance.
Tomorrow we might just stay in our pajamas all day to recover from all week; however, playgroup is on the calendar so venturing out is still a real possibility. I have learned A LOT this week about going out with my adventure buddy and after lots of trial and error (and more still to come) we have actually been arriving on time to some of our appointments. That feels like a huge success!
