For a few months Emily has been very aware of Andrew and all of her other friends’s dads catching the bus and going to school. We talk about Dad catching the bus every day, and sometimes missing the bus. She asks all day long where Emily’s dad is, Arthur’s dad, Gwen’s dad, Paul’s dad, Kisty’s dad, Luna’s dad, etc. Fortunately they are all in grad school so the answer is easy. Last week Emily started a new thing where she puts her backpack on and tells me, “Bye mom. Going to school in office-room (or downstairs). Backpack. Be back soon.” Then after a few minutes she comes running back and says, “Welcome home!” just like we say when her dad arrives, and I chime in and ask her how her day was. “Good.” Then she’s off to school again.
With Emily’s love of busses (we found a school bus book last week at a book sale and it is her current favorite!) and school we decided Friday morning to have Emily ride the bus with Andrew to school and I would follow shortly after to pick her up and run a few errands. She got all ready and made sure both she and Andrew were wearing their backpacks. You can’t tell from the picture but she was sooooo excited.
When I picked Emily up she was all ready to tell me about her adventures. They rode two buses and had to run really fast to catch the second bus. They pulled a chord on the bus and it made a sound. She wrote at dad’s school and she typed on the computer (the typing on the computer was a major highlight!). She has been talking about their morning together constantly since Friday morning. I love that Andrew made it so special for her and she got the full bus riding and school experience. I also love that she can tell me in pretty good detail about her day from her perspective.
