When Andrew and I were dating we made a huge list of things we wanted to do together. The original paper copy, which eventually morphed into a google doc, is hanging framed in our bedroom. There are a few ideas that we never got to, including a Calvin and Hobbs marathon. The original plan was to borrow them from Grandpa Snow which is where Andrew grew up reading them. A neighbor of ours was giving away a stack of Calvin and Hobbs books in preparation for moving and I grabbed them, decreasing the travel time to comic books by 24 hours.
Tonight we had our marathon after six years of building anticipation. It was simple, sitting side by side in silence with the large pages stretching across our laps. Every handful of pages a giggle morphed into an infectious belly laugh and slowly fade out over the next few pages. It was our first date where our communication was straight laughter. We made it through 75% of one book, which means we have some more Calvin and Hobbs dates ahead.
