I love fall. I love the cooler temperatures, falling leaves, picking apples, football games, and consuming anything made with pumpkins or apples. Today was the first day that we got a hint that fall is approaching. Yesterday it was over 90 degrees – today it hovered right around 70. Now that is pure heaven! We enjoyed pumpkin muffins and homemade chicken noodle soup with rolls to unofficially celebrate.
This evening Andrew and I were returning home and one of our neighbors (who we don’t know yet) pulled up next to us, opened their trunk, and with very little English said that we could take as many apples as we wanted from their trunk that was completely full of them. We filled up my purse with roughly two dozen freshly picked apples. Humbling. What a sweet gesture; a great reminder of kindness and generosity from people that have so very, very little. That is part of the fall season too.
As far as football goes, Andrew and I have diligently been watching BYU football games, despite the late hours that come from living in the Eastern Time Zone. My heart ached a bit last week as it was the first time in four years I wasn’t in LaVell Edwards Stadium for an opening home game. And it was such a great win too! But living in a college town means we don’t escape the excitement of football games completely. Purdue has a game tomorrow night and the field across the street has become a RV park. By this evening there were probably 5 or 6 rows of them. It reminds us of the Quidditch World Cup, except it happens for every home game.
Fall may not be here yet officially, but I have certainly enjoyed the preview!
