This year Father’s Day came sandwiched between lots of busyness. I guess it probably will every year. Emily and I picked up a few things from the store on Thursday before Andrew came home and hid them so he wouldn’t suspect a thing. After he left for church on Sunday to go to his meetings, we quickly made his favorite German Chocolate Cake (this is more for his birthday than Father’s Day), wrapped his presents (some of his favorite candy, plus sour patch kids, because it seemed fitting for the day), and made him a little sign.
We did enjoy celebrating after church, but we also struggled through the afternoon/evening together. Emily didn’t take a nap and we learned that that isn’t a great idea. Andrew was pretty creative in his distractions. While I was making homemande pizza for dinner he darkened the upstairs hallway and showed Emily the art of making shadow animals. She loved it.
I’m grateful for Andrew. From day one he has been an involved and fun dad. I’m so lucky he is on my team. I love watching his relationship develop and grow with Emily. They are so cute together and such good friends.
