Yesterday Nathan made a huge leap forward in the mobility department. He discovered he can climb the kitchen table chairs by himself and reach a whole new level to explore. He also caught the vision and desire to walk. He’s been walking along furniture for awhile now, but yesterday he realized what he was doing and expanded to purposeful walking along walls and using the toy shopping cart as a walker.
After dinner and cleaning up the kitchen and living area for the Sabbath, Emily, Nathan, and I played tag while Andrew kindly vacuumed for the finishing touch. Nathan grabbed my hands, pulled himself up, and took off running while maintaining a tight grip and laughing gleefully while Emily lapped us. We continued on like this for at least 10 minutes. I gently separated myself from Nathan when he momentarily took interest in something else to aid Andrew with the cleaning. Twenty seconds later Nathan crawled over a little upset, pulled himself up on my legs, grabbed my hands as I reached down to pick him up, and started running again. It is only a matter of time now, and with his focused persistence and determination I wouldn’t be surprised if he was running by the end of the week!
