For the last few months we have been spending a lot of time exclaiming, “I did it!”, “You did it!”, and “We both did it!”. Emily started it and I quickly jumped on her bandwagon. I have been amazed at just how powerful that phrase is.
Last night Emily really wanted a certain pickle out of the jar. I told her I wasn’t sure I could get it but I spent a few moments and eventually fished it out. Emily shouted, “Mommy did it!!!” and you better believe I felt good about getting that pickle out.
It has turned into automatic positive self talk (in Emily’s voice) throughout the day for me. I go on a walk and think, “I did it!”. Get the breakfast dishes washed, “I did it!”. Throw away the pile of mail off the table, “I did it!”. Go grocery shopping, “I did it! I did it! I did it!”. And then I feel motivated to do even more.
I highly recommend giving that phrase a try.
