Nathan and Laura each had told us that I was pregnant before I would have thought to take a pregnancy test. And I was pretty sure I wasn’t. Laura had slid off my lap and patted my stomach – not even two years old yet and with zero conversations previously that would indicate she knows such things – and told me I had a baby in my tummy. Nathan was adamant that after he had been 4 for a really long time and Emily 6 for a really long time that he would have a baby brother. When I found out they were both right, we were excited and a bit surprised.
I had thought that we had another boy that wanted to join our family, and with Nathan’s insistence on having a brother we were pretty certain it was a boy. We all went excitedly to the ultrasound expecting a confirmation of this news with a name picked out.
Nathan was absolutely fascinated by the ultrasound process and trying to understand what he was looking at, wrapping his mind around the idea of what he was seeing and was he thought was going on. Emily was completely engaged until we found out the gender, and then joined Andrew in trying to keep Laura in good spirits. Laura thought the baby was cool for the first few minutes and then was ready to explore.
When the ultrasound tech said, “Do you want to know the gender?” while looking a the screen Andrew said, “I already know. It is very clear. Three lines – it’s a girl.” We were all in shock and totally surprised.
After we finished the ultrasound we went and picked up papa john’s pizza to eat for dinner. After the news sunk in we are all super excited and happy to have another little girl join our family! We are glad that we have a few months to pick a new name and we can’t wait to meet her!
