I think one of the things that we miss the most right now with social distancing is not having people over for dinner. We are trying to make the most of this time and decided to have a cook-out with just our family. We’ve been starting a little fire and roasting hot-dogs and s’mores about once a month this summer and it is a great way to mix up our usual meal times.
Everyone is so good to jump in and help. Laura loves helping get the mat and table all set up on the deck with food. Emily and Nathan help Andrew get the fire going. I make the salad and get other fruits and veggies to round out the meal.
This day was particularly hot and after sweating it out for a few minutes Nathan declared, “I think instead of a cook out we should have an eat in.” Everyone readily agreed and we moved our dinner inside with the air conditioning, which was absolutely perfect.
Andrew braved the heat to roast marshmallows for everyone and then we prepared the s’mores inside. Nathan commented that Andrew “looked like a professional”.

That is perfect! Haha such a great kid thing to say… so wise, honest, and so true.
