Andrew and I have both been working on a lot and felt like we were just passing the kids back and forth between us instead of spending time as a whole unit (he’s working full time, applying, interviewing, and traveling for future jobs; I’m homeschooling and mothering and podcasting and decluttering). On Friday night Andrew and I realized what we needed most was a family day. When the kids woke up and we told them the news Saturday morning there was much rejoicing in the land.
We decided to go to IKEA to get blackout curtains and rods for the windows in the Emily and Nathan’s room. Once we got our items, we thought it would be fun to eat lunch there in honor of Jackson Family Day. We tried the 75 cent veggie dogs and followed it with dollar ice cream cones.
We spent the afternoon hanging up the curtains and lowering a shelf that was here when we arrived in the kids room to make a desk/building space for them.
It was simple, but we were together acquisitioning supplies and working on projects which is a very Jackson way to be together. It was refreshing and unifying and lovely. Thank goodness for family days.
