For our first outing of the week Elise, Emily, Clara, and I drove up to Independence, MI. There is so much to see there about church history, but with our two little girls in tow we opted to just do the Independence Visitor Center. In the basement we saw pictures taken in the early 1900s of all of the church history sites as well as pictures of what they look like today. We then saw an exhibit about the history of the church in Missouri. Emily and Clara were ready to explore a bit after patiently joining us on our tours so we took them to the children’s play area.
Can you guess which mom was taking the pictures and which mom was trying to make the girls smile?
It was time for a snack break after all our playing. Emily ate her first cracker ever, so naturally it had to be documented.
We then went to an exhibit about families. This was my absolute favorite part of the visitors center. There was a walk through with video clips at each station showing different eras of family life; newborn, grade school, teenage years, marriage, and death. There were moments of fun, moments of service, moments of trials, and moments of grief, all captioned with words from The Family: A Proclamation to the World. It might be worth the drive to Kansas just to see this 15 minute presentation (although it sounded like it might also be at the Salt Lake Visitor Center).
