Emily has once again returned to running her car around the circle downstairs. When she caught me taking pictures she ran over and asked to see them, and then took off running so I could take more and then show them to her. The little scrap of paper on the floor has a picture of an ipad on it, and she calls it her tiny phone. It has been a lot of places, including buried in the sand.
I’m endlessly amazed at how much this girl loves sitting in boxes and small containers. This time she decided to try and close herself in, then hopped out to grab her broom (a fly-swatter that she converted and uses to clean the house with me). The pom poms (called “poms”) in the background are dumped out a few times a day, but she is also very good to clean them up before bed. A few days ago she was playing with them and the felt pieces and somehow we started talking about how she would go to the hospital to meet her baby brother. Immediately she started singing, “clean up, clean up” and getting ready to head to the hospital – oops. I told her we had to wait about nine more weeks, she signed and said “wait – baby bigger” and dumped out the felt pieces again. Now I have great confidence that when it is time to go she won’t have any problems getting ready. We have some version of this conversation a few times a day (whether it is to play with a friend or go to the store or hold her brother or daddy coming home), always ending with “wait” and a confirming and accepting head nod; this girl is the most patient person I have ever met!
Emily sat down with her peach, crossed her legs, and looked at the pictures on our wall. She had no idea I snapped these pictures, and I never want to forget her like this. Outfit all her own.
I did Emily’s hair on Sunday; some twist thing that has a fancy name that Christine taught me. It stayed in until Emily snuggled and gave Andrew hugs at church and her hair got caught in his stubble. Daddy-daughter moments are totally worth ruined hair. She and I did this puzzle before church; she really enjoys putting it together and I’m amazed at her attention span.
Andrew walked in the door at the end of the day after teaching and Emily ran and got one of his ties off the back of the couch. She traded him for the one around his neck and he helped her tie it on. She loves helping him pick out a tie and wear one just like daddy. My favorite part is when she helps tuck the back in.
Emily helped me wash all of these containers outside. We each got our own towels to dry them off and then she pushed them from the back to the front of the house where we stacked them high. This is part of a huge project get rid of all the bins that I took with me when I left for college and wash all of the contents to move into the new bins for long term storage. So far we have washed and stored all of the girl clothes up to the size Emily is wearing now.
Emily gets her hair done standing at our bedroom window and watching for buses; a perk of living on a bus route in a college town. Usually we just soak her hair with water, brush and scrunch, but every once in awhile she likes the idea of a ponytail or pigtails.
