We gave Emily craft supplies for Christmas. This was our first (and so far, only) attempt to use them. We made a little girl with a pink dress that fit on Emily’s finger. She had her buddy with her for an hour or so going about her usual activities.
I’ve reentered the kitchen after a long hiatus from baking. My first project: crackers, followed by homemade bread, which turned out perfectly.
Andrew and Emily playing the fishing game while I feed Nathan. Emily for once is actually dressed appropriately for the activity.
I’ve been using the moby wrap I made before Emily was born with Nathan off and on. Emily decided to make her own for the bear, yellow just like mom’s. She used it mostly for dancing with the bear and taking pictures with her soap.
Nathan’s waking up!
Middle of the night smiles and his first ever giggle.
All ready for church! Actually he was but then needed a complete outfit change before we left. It’s taken all of January but I finally have a good system figured out to get Emily, Nathan, and I all ready and out the door for church without Andrew (early morning meetings) and also home and into bed without Andrew (after church meetings).
Sleeping Nathan.
I introduced Emily to bubble wrap with great results. She used her hands at first after I showed her how it worked, but then we both had fun walking around on it to create maximum popping.
We bought a bag of water beads that are super tiny until you put them in water and then after 6-8 hours they swell up to the size of marbles and are soft and bouncy. Emily thoroughly enjoyed playing with a big bowl full and it didn’t take long before she was splashing them everywhere and they bounced all over our house while she spontaneously belly laughed. It was fun to watch, but I also realized during this happy moment that these are a serious choking hazard so they are going away for awhile until we can use them in more controlled setting.
We grabbed popcorn for an after nap time snack last week and Emily suggested we watch a movie like we usually do with popcorn (both happen very rarely). I couldn’t stand the idea of watching TV so we pulled out Blokus instead and found all the matches while chomping on popcorn. It was the highlight of my week and we will definitely make game playing with popcorn a more regular activity. Emily’s favorite game right now is Candy Land and she is a stickler for the rules. She does love changing the color of her gingerbread man to match the color square she is on though, so we have to watch the board pretty carefully to make sure our pieces are all on the right squares during these mix ups.
My candid picture taking was caught and she wanted to stand and smile for the next one.
Andrew is working on a super cool grant that he helped apply for a year ago (during my major morning sickness). It is fun to see it start to come to life with the mold he helped design and then 3D printed. We all gathered around for the grand reveal. Yesterday he bought a toaster oven and borrowed our candy thermometer for the project and we are all anxiously awaiting the final results.
Nathan’s latest trick – holding the pacifier in himself so he doesn’t loose it.
Two days ago Nathan discovered the little creatures above his head. He watched them intently and got excited whenever they moved.
Emily saw I was taking pictures of Nathan and asked me to take a picture of her and her baby. She told her baby to say cheese but the baby didn’t so we had to take the picture again.
Reading one book in mommy in daddy’s bed followed by a book in Emily’s room as the end of the bedtime routine. The current favorite is her “mother goose book” which has a collection of rhymes illustrated by Tommy dePaulo. Andrew and I find most of the rhymes either puzzling or slightly morbid, but Emily loves asking what each picture is and talking about it and then having us sing each rhyme to her.
Today I took my very last pill to beat c-diff. At least it better be after taking these guys four times a day for three weeks, and a previous bought that lasted four weeks, two weeks prior to this round. I’ve bleached our house in hopes of killing all the little spores off for good and not catching it again and have been loading up on probiotics. We’ll see what happens next.
