My parents and sister came for the last weekend in April. We had a blast. When they arrived the kids and Christine and I went outside while everyone else took an afternoon nap. When we got inside we juiced a bunch of lemons for a sugar scrub and made beeswax coconut oil lotion. We ordered pizza and headed out to a park for dinner. Papa Johns did not disappoint and the weather was perfect for running around the playground.
At 7pm there was a Luau at the Loeb Playhouse on campus being put on by the president of the Polynesian Club, who also happens to be in our ward at church. It was over two hours of dancing and music from all the different Polynesian islands and I learned so much. The show opened with warriors with the paint, music, and drums to go with it. The kids were terrified (even my heart was racing) and my dad looked over at me and said, “Great idea Jess!”. Once we got passed that though it truly was AMAZING for everyone. Andrew won the hip shaking competition. At the end were were all wowed with the fire dancing.
The show finished around 9:40pm and we headed back to our car. Nathan who usually wants to be carried or in the stroller happily walked holding Grandpa Mooses’s hand. He would walk for hours if he could be with Grandpa. In fact he has spent the last two months pretending that Grandpa is either coming here or we are going there. When we are going – or that we should go right now – comes up many times a day. I love his attachment and love of Grandpa Moose and always wondering where he is and what he is doing, and being a worker and a fixer like he is.
We had a little bit of a late start the next day after our late night. We enjoyed just hanging out at home and reading books and chatting.
Everyone went to the park for some slack lining, frisbee, and ball while I took a nap and put dinner in the crock pot. In the afternoon the girls used the sugar scrub and lotion for pedicures. It was the perfect quiet activity. Emily loved loved loved putting the sugar scrub and lotion on everyones feet.
After the kids were tucked in we watched the Greatest Showman. That movie was fantastic. I have since showed the kids the scene with Rewrite the Stars and now they both want to fly and dance in the air. For now we are appeasing the desire with lots of swinging outside in creative ways while singing the song.
My parents and sister joined us for church and then headed home to jump back into life. We love love love when they come!
