Nathan’s First Birthday

While we did some initial celebrating on the Saturday with my parents, we still tried to make Oct 31 special.  We hung up the happy birthday banner and told about the day he was born over breakfast.  Then Andrew went to school/work and, like all Mondays, didn’t get home until 9pm.

Emily and I used the morning to finish up Nathan’s birthday present, a little rice warmer bear that is similar to her rice bunny.

When we pulled out a bag that night Nathan knew just what to do.  He promptly discarded all wrapping materials on the ground and was ready to move on to ice cream.

We lit a candle and sang, during which time Nathan impressed us all with his reach and grabbed the bowl.  Andrew tried to blow out the candle but not before Nathan got his finger on it.  Although momentarily distracted, the burn didn’t seem to stop him for long.

After a bite of ice cream, he knew took over feeding himself via bowl and spoon like a champ.
