On Nathan’s birthday he woke up determined to have a blue cake at Happy Hollow Park with friends. We decided to do our family celebration of pancakes and presents in the morning, and save the friend portion for Saturday. We gave him a truck and he got books from Grandma Jackson.
He and Emily helped me make and frost his blue cake. Nathan carefully put on all of his sprinkles.
At the park we met a few friends who made themselves available for a list minute celebration. We did a short hike, played on the playground, and ended with cake. Nathan loved his cake and outlasted everyone else, enjoying every bit of it.
Brother Nicholson, who is like a grandfather to Nathan, and a firefighter so Nathan thinks the world of him, pulled him aside and gave him a flashlight to help in his own firefighter pursuits. Nathan somberly received the instructions that accompanied such a tool for a firefighter. Once we were in the car he talked all about it.
