Dear Lydia,
This first month of life with you has gone so fast – and it seems like you’ve always been with us!
Your neck continues to get stronger and stronger. Not only can you still move it back and forth during tummy time, but you also like to try and hold your neck up when you are carried upright on our shoulders or in the moby wrap.
You aren’t the biggest fan of being outside yet. You either close your eyes and try to sleep or cry a lot. In fact you were crying so hard and for so long one time that I assumed you had to be tired or hungry. Nope, the second I brought you inside you stopped and we’re happy to just hang out for another hour.
You are generally pretty happy during the day. Your vision is improving and you love looking at our ceiling fans and lights. You enjoy doing tummy time with the other kids lying next to you.
Everyone still loves and adores you. Your brother and sisters want to all sit next to where you are at meals and want to lie closest to you when you are on the floor or couch. You are very patient while everyone takes their turn holding you too. Emily also holds you a lot if I need to help someone else or use both hands for a moment. Nathan waits until we are getting ready for bed and then holds you many nights, talking with you softly, showing you something he is excited about, and gently giving you a kiss on the head.
I’m still amazed with how well you sleep at night! While you are fussy in the evening, you generally go to bed between 8:30 and 10 (usually on the later end) and then just wake up every 2.5-4 hours to eat but go right back to sleep. You have a very clear sense of day and night which is close to miraculous and we are so grateful. Dad and I love our evenings with you, and you are equally comfortable with both of us. We love talking about how cute you are, marvel over your strength, adore the faces you make, and take turns having you cuddle up against us and be so grateful for yiu snuggles.
During the day morning you sleep is unpredictable but you do have a pretty solid nap in the afternoon usually starting around 12:30 or 1pm. It astounds me how much regularity you already have in your sleep patterns.
You are still nursing really well. During the day everyone loves to crowd around you and kiss your head, rub your back, or touch your toes while you eat. Laura makes sure we always have a burp cloth at the ready and is quick to get diapers and wipes when needed.
Lydia every few days you have a long series of sneezes that just keeps going, and going and going. When Dad and I hear the first one we now pause and listen to the 7 or 8 in a row. You will pause partway through and let out a quiet yell of anticipation or frustration, and then keep on sneezing.
Lydia we love you so much and are forever grateful you are in our family.
