Dear Lydia,
We are absolutely delighted and grateful to have you here in our home with our family – and we can tell you are too. From the first moment you met your sisters and brother you have been completely content to be held by them, sung to by them, and watch their play. When you are fussy you are quick to calm down if they come over and start talking or singing to you.
You recognize Laura’s favorite primary songs that we’ve been singing for bedtime every night for months – I love to see the temple, I am a Child of God, and Book of Mormon Stories. You settle very quickly when you hear us sing them.
Eating came completely naturally to you, as did filling your diapers. From day one you were a champ at both and we’ve never been worried or stressed by how much food you are getting. You also figured out pretty quick that you can stop and start eating whenever you like. You’ve continued to gain weight consistently as well.
You sleep pretty well, but we’ve still had quite a few nights where you are up for 4 hour stretches due to an upset stomach. That seems to happen every 24 hours but the time of day changes, so every few days we party at night with lots of diaper blow-outs and eating.
You did tummy time for the first time at 6 days old and surprised us all with your strength. Not only did you lift your head up and turn it side to side a few times, but you got your feet up and underneath yourself and moved yourself forward. A few well time moves and it looked like beginning crawling. The kids were all gathered around you and you were so content to be on the floor with them.
You’ve spent much of this first week in the bedroom with me, but you love getting out and watch wide-eyed when we go new places (car rides, the doctors office, and other rooms in our house). You love the changing light and shadows. We are amazed at how well you track and follow us with your eyes already!
Lydia I absolutely love holding you all cuddled up in my arms. You snuggle in so content and are happy to stay. You have such a special spirit about you and we all find so much joy watching you discover the world and see your personality unfold. It seems like you came here ready to take on the world.
You are loved so much by us all!
