I don’t have or wear a lot of jewelry, but Emily knows exactly where it is and LOVES the necklace I earned in young women’s that has a picture of the Salt Lake Temple on it. I don’t let her wear it, so after one particular rough separation between the two of them Emily exclaimed that she wanted her own pink temple necklace.
The next morning I woke up early with inspiration to make her one. I pulled out my clay that I hadn’t used in too long and made a toddler sized pendant. I pulled out my medallion and pressed it into the clay and baked it before Emily woke up.
I decided I would wait to give it to her until she asked for it again. A week went by and Andrew suggested I pull it out. I hadn’t made the necklace part yet so I pulled out some red string and taught Emily how to make a rope, just like my mom taught me when I was little. We made two loops and put a pen in each end. She went to the other side of the room and held it still while I twisted it. When her patience for the task ran out we brought the two ends together, the rope twisted itself, we strung it through her pink temple medallion and tied the ends together.
It doesn’t show in the pictures (exhaustion shows, which is why Andrew suggested we pull it out – we all needed a distraction), but she was very excited. The temple necklace has become an integral part of our lives. She loves it, wears it, and sometimes it is even her phone. She likes when we both wear our temple necklaces and we match.
