Emily is going through a pretty big princess phase right now. Usually pink princess, and more often than not a ballerina princess too. This last week she found a large rubber band that she puts on as her crown and exclaims, “I’m the princess ballerina of the world!” followed by asking me to dance with her (or marry her). We’ve been listening and dancing to the ballet station on pandora a lot.
We have a halloween book that we occasionally read and one of the kids dresses up as a fairy. Every time we get to that part Emily asks for fairy wings. Last week she asked at a good time and I pulled down a cereal box and quickly constructed wings. Emily wanted to paint them and found her watercolors.
I made a serious effort to let her paint as she wanted and I felt so fulfilled watching her create and be so intentional in her work. I was invited to, “get my fingers dirty” towards the end and was grateful for the chance to slow down and expand my view. It was an easy project with a quick clean up, and I’ve decided to have an intentional focus on everyday creativity.
