Right after we got home last week Andrew mentioned that Riverfest was coming up. We’ve never been before, or even talked about going, but there was a 5K and a kids run we thought would be fun. Upon further investigation we realized we missed our chance register for the run but Emily still could so we committed.
I had low expectations and they were blown out of the water.
Emily started the day off with her Water Droplet race, running across the pedestrian bridge of the Wabash River. We had a slight problem with her shorts being too big and falling off. We were stopping every few feet to pull them back up until I stuffed her way -to0-big shirt in.
Emily and I need to practice taking more pictures together apparently.
After the race explored all the different booths and activities. There were canoe races, live music, fishing, pony rides, zoo animals, games, food, and lawn games. We started with the sand.
Best find of the day: free bike helmet for Emily. We were literally going to buy one the night before but changed our minds because we wanted to measure her head and she was sleeping.
Emily pushes Nathan everywhere we when use the umbrella stroller. She is becoming a rather helpful driver.
After running into a friend that has been enjoying Riverfest for years and could give us some pointers, Emily and I set off to the pony rides. Emily was a little skeptical at first but ended up loving it. She kept saying, “I want Daddy to watch me!” but we had been unsuccessful at locating him until the end when she exclaimed, “I SEE DADDY! Daddy watch!!!”
Emily then got a little lesson from a fishing expert and Andrew and I took turns fishing with her. Fishing is a huge part of my Dad’s family so I grew up going fishing on a boat with my uncle and cousins. It was fun to watch her enjoy something that I love and is part of our history.
Emily was getting hungry so she played a paper fishing game and got goldfish crackers as a prize. She munched on those while we checked out (and petted) some fish and zoo animals. Andrew made sure Nathan got a good view too.
A local kids gym was advertising some of their activities and Emily and Nathan played in the tunnel for awhile on the way to the playground.
On our way out Emily saw the bike derby. I’m fairly confident that her favorite part of the day was riding the balance bike. She is quite fearless and went up and down the little ramp they had set up.
Riverfest I think we will be stopping by again next year!
