I’ve learned that Paprika is an interesting spice. Paprika comes from sweet red peppers of the dried and ground variety. It releases’s its flavor only when it is heated, so it is also often just used as a garnish to bring color to dull looking dishes (I’m thinking deviled eggs fit into this category). One suggestion was to use paprika when you grab salt and pepper – just to add some interest and color to the dish. I don’t think I’ll go to quite that extreme, but maybe in egg, chicken, and potato dishes.
Here is one recipe I found that is used to add to hamburgers.
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
Directions:
Combine the paprika, salt, pepper, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper in an airtight container; seal. Shake to combine. Store in a cool, dry place between uses.
We just sprinkled it on our hamburgers while we were grilling them – delicious!!! Highly recommend this one!
