Dear Laura,
This last week you have grown so much! You are loosing the newborn look and are squarely in the baby realm. I’m amazed at how tall/long you are. The Indiana humidity has brought out your curls and it is so fun to have another curly girl in the house.
Laura we love how much you talk to us. Right when you wake up and before you fall the sleep you have a lot to say. “Uhhhh-oooh” and little squeals is how the typical conversation goes. Occasional gurgles and yelps are also starting to appear. You are smiling at us consistently. Often I look over and you are gazing adoringly at Emily or Nathan while they dance and play. Emily and you regularly have little chats, just the two of you. Lately I’ve noticed how you and Nathan also have a different, but very special relationship forming. He comes over in quiet moments and talks to you, “my baby Laura”. When it’s just the two of us (usually during rest and read time) you talk talk talk, seizing the opportunity of my undivided attention. I love our one on one time. When Dad walks in the door you are all eyes and smiles for him.
Nighttime sleep is still hit or miss. A few times you’ve only waken up once or twice to eat. More often than not you are waking up many times to eat – probably because you are growing so much! During the day you are awake for longer and longer stretches. Your naps aren’t regular yet, but you typically fall asleep around 11:30am for 30-45 minutes, eat, and then sleep a bit longer. How much you sleep in the morning depends on when you started your day (either up around 7am or 9am). Around 3ish you take another longer nap, usually in the stroller if we are out at the park.
Nursing is going really well still, but also taking a lot longer. You went from eating for 10-15 minutes to eating for 30 minutes, especially the first few feedings in the morning if you had a 3-4 hour stretch at night. You’ve also figured out how to suck on your fingers/hands and spend a lot of your waking hours doing so. You are not a cuddler, but a few times you’ve given me the sweetest one arm hugs.
It looks like your eyes are blue! You are so alert during the day watching everyone and everything around you. Right when you wake up you eat and need a diaper change, but then you are happy to lay on the floor and watch all the action. You are starting to kick your legs and wave your arms around when you are excited. You love it when I sing to you – particularly “The Wheels on the Bus” while I move your legs around for the actions. On Sunday Nathan grabbed your arms and waved them around saying, “wiggle, wiggle” and you gave him a huge smile.
Laura we love you so much!
Everyone jumping in with their dogs.
She didn’t love the barking dog!
