Today was a normal day, full of the little surprises that are part of life with a toddler. During breakfast Emily decided she wanted to go swimming at Grandma Moose’s house with Aunt Christine and she would wear her swim diaper. I told her when it is warm outside again we can go swimming there and didn’t think much of it. After she was dressed for the day I went to go get ready myself only to discover a few minutes later she had found her swim diapers and swimsuit and had Andrew helping her pull her swimsuit on over her clothes.
We went to institute and Emily played with her friends. We came home a little later than we usually do and Emily was overtired and hungry, which led to a pretty impressive tantrum. Once food was at the table we were good to go. We read books after lunch and she took a nap while I had office hours. After lunch we played upstairs together, washed a few dishes, and had friends over to play.
The fun began when Andrew can home. With a clean kitchen I figured the best present would be to keep it clean. We all hopped in the car and went to Walmart to pick up oreos and mint chocolate chip ice cream, then off to Papa Johns to pick up pizza for dinner.
After eating pizza Emily suggested we dive right into ice cream and cookies. We talked about it being mom’s birthday during the day and she said it was mommy’s turn and , “Emily two, mommy three.” Good logic :) She really likes oreos.
Andrew brought my presents over to open while we ate dessert. He and Emily had wrapped presents earlier in the week and Emily was excited for me to open, “Mommy’s presents.” They gave me a book and a remote control for our camera so we can take more family pictures. My parents gave me a rotary cutter and mat for sewing projects when they were here for Emily’s birthday (I’m giddy excited about this, unlike the sewing machine they gave me when I was fourteen. I’ve gained some perspective since then). Andrew told me there was a test picture for me on the camera.
Emily and I snapped a few pictures together. She wanted to do lots of fish faces and open mouths. I love this girl!
It was truly a perfect birthday, spending time with my two favorite people. I wouldn’t change a thing. In other news, I’ve been having braxton hicks contractions pretty consistently for three days, and this afternoon and evening they are more uncomfortable. I’m not planning on our little boy arriving anytime this week, but he is getting ready to join us!
