The last few days have been very productive blur of fun and progress. It feels good to have a quieter, slow morning after the hustle and just think about some of those things. Andrew has been working on four papers that were due today (he finished around 2am this morning) for conference submissions. Emily has discovered the world of independent play and always has something she wants to be doing (which means she also didn’t take naps for a few days, woke up by 6am, and went to bed late because she was always thinking of the next thing). I’ve been make progress on a whole slew of random things and it feels good to check some things off.
Saturday morning Andrew was working on his papers and it looked like a beautiful day outside. Emily, Nathan, and I along with our neighbors loaded up the stroller for a walk to goodwill. We found a few games and a wooden music table that we hauled home with us. One of the games I picked up was ‘Smath which is essentially scrabble with math. We are all pretty excited about the find! Math literacy is a big deal to Andrew (which I agree with) so I think this is a fun option to promote that.
Emily was busy all day Saturday and Sunday tucking things in. She uses tissues and baby wipes for that purpose. There were also little picnics set up all over our home.
Yesterday began at 5:45am for the whole family and I didn’t stop moving until I collapsed into bed at 9:30. Emily exercised with me for a little bit (hence the matching chairs for our physique 57 workout) but after awhile she started bringing blocks over to build ships and houses. When it rained on the blocks (just rain – no thunder or lightening) she used her dress to dry them off. This was an all day activity.
Emily loves the kefir popsicles we’ve started making with my leftover kefir smoothies (lots of kefir, a banana, and a couple of frozen berries). The only meltdowns we have about food these days is over the number of popsicles she can have.
After Andrew got home last night and before the missionaries joined us for dinner, we pumped up my bike tires, did some basic safety tests, and then I went on a short ride. This was the first time I rode my bike since I was pregnant with Emily. I forgot how much I LOVE biking. Our February spring looks like it is on its way out, but I’m glad I snatched the moment. I can hardly wait to begin regular cycling again.
Also needing to be mentioned, my neighbor and I had our first truly successful and forward moving fiddle practice yesterday with four kids running around. Hopefully we can keep up our momentum.
Nathan is still the best hugger ever. He joined me for teeth brushing this morning (like most mornings) and I couldn’t resist snapping a picture of his purposeful arm.
When I came down from brushing my teeth, Emily was driving her car to Kisty’s house. And then she was cookie monster sitting in a box.
Now off to the races again!
